I am attempting to install a Maxtor 200 gig SATA 150 Model 6L2000S0 on my MSI Mainboard Model Name MS-7125 Mainboard with BIOS Version 1.B0 (the latest) I am unable to see the drive at all?
I have tried about everything I know to add this drive, tried other SATA plug ins...

Really stumped, any ideas would be really awesome as I need to finish some projects here soon

Thanks

oops By the way I have WinXP Pro if this matters :)

keeper01,

Are you installing as a second drive?

If you are trying to use it as the boot drive and install XP to it, you need to have the SATA drivers on a floppy and select the "F6" when prompted by the xp install. Your mobo cd should have a 'makedisk' for this. You need all the files the drivers and the .inf etc.

If a second drive and you have installed the drivers from within xp. Make sure that the drive is formatted as XP will not see a drive in 'my computer' that is not formatted. Install in xp by adding hardware > let me pick from list > have disk etc.

Hope this helps

Thanks
I am attempting to install as a pure DATA disk, its not formatted, and the MAXBLAST utility doesnt see it as being a SATA hard drive (I think that what the error said)

Any BIOS settings I might wish to know?
In fact the SATA Raid set up doesnt even detect the drive being there physically, which is whats freakin me out

Thanks and I am willing to listen and learn

thanks

You really should not be entering the RAID setup. You are using this aa a single SATA drive.

You should have one or two settings in your system BIOS to enable the SATA controller (Not the RAID function) and possibly the SATA channel you are using.

MAXBLAST is a good utility to use with the maxtor drive once you get the other settings configed so that it can see it.

Hope this helps

Uh I know it takes a Huge man to admit this, I am an idiot ~~

Sorry to all and thinks for your time
I noticed on the Power supply adapter that one of the wires was extending a bit more....

as it turns out thats why it wasnt being detected, the power supply was broke
I got another, plugged in and BANG we are all good to go :)
I thought I had read somewhere about a conflict with MSI boards and Maxtor and that this was one of them, no such drama
LOL

Thanks again
