I am running a MSI K7T turbo limited motherboard and AMD 1.4 gig CPU, win98. My system locks up after running a couple of minutes. I have replaced the ram, and video card. I have reinstalled all drivers and it still locks up. I have 256 meg of PC133 ram. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi
In the motherboard BIOS, reset by choosing.. OPTIMAL DEFAULT SETTINGS rather than TURBO defaults. This will solve your problem.

Also, if your are using cooling FAN of P4, they are not enough. You have to use some superior quality cooling fans, since Athlon needs higher cooling owing to its performance which is re;latively higher compared to P4. Ghz numbers is not a comparison.

Hope this helps :) ramani :-9

Could well be a cooling issue! 1.4's kick out 67 watts of heat! they need a very substantial heatsink and fan (not generic cheapy) and invariably extra case cooling to get rid of all the additional heat generated. Good air flow in the case also helps supply the CPU fan with the coolest possible air supply. Martin

Thanks for your help. Tried your suggestions...It seems it was a bad motherboard. Replaced MSI motherboard with a ASUS A7V133 and am no longer having any lockups.

Thanks again!
