MSI board

Hello! I'm new to this forum, a very interesting one indeed! Right now, I'm a bit confused about what board to choose to go with an INtel Pentium 2.4 GHz processor. Can you help me? Can you give me boards from Asus and MSI as well?

On MBs

Asus - Are good but are picky with memory chips.

ABit - Are suited more for business but can function as
a gaming board. It is also good with multimedia
programs.

Gigabyte - Are Great gaming boards and some multimedia

MSI - Is a little slow but its a great work horse and good
for gaming, business, and multimedia

These should do for you.

just 1 guy,
How on earth can you generalize like this about 4 top manufactures products, when each manufacturer has motherboards available for several differant processor platforms and intended for numerous differant types of applications, like server and workstation to general desktop and gaming.
Example: "Asus are good but picky with memory chips"
what, ALL motherboards they make? with chipsets from Intel 845E, 845G, 845PE, 850, 72025, SIS655, Via KT400a, and Nforce2 to name but a few.
For the P4 now, the SIS655 chipset equipt motherboards probably offer the best value and performance for desktop and gaming with support for just about every extra.
Intel Granite Bay 72025 equipt motherboards best for workstation
And intels 845PE chipset equipt motherboards offer a slightly slower but more tried and tested formula
So you see, pick the chipset first, the one that best suits your needs and then the features you require, this by definition will presellect the one or two manufactures that make a motherboard matching your requirements.
But yes! stick to one of the top 5-6 makes:
MSI, Gigabyte, Abit, Asus, Soyo, Soltek.
Avoid ECS, PCchips, Martin
Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

Below are three different Asus chipset/MB

Asus P4 B533-E
Supporting up to 2GB of ECC PC1600-PC2700 DDR SDRAM


E7205 chipset:
The DDR333 has been out there for a long time and the 845PE chipset can utilize this type of memory Unfortunately the E7205 chipset can not benefit from this type of memory unless you don't overclock. Can use non-ECC and ECC

ASUS P4PE favors
Corsair XMS3500 memory chips

The above three chipset/MB work better with the memory chips that are indicated (motherboards. org). these are just a few to make my point.

This is want I made by picky in memory. To the average person this phrase is more understandable than what is indicated above. I’m assuming that the person wants less to think about and something simple enough to install. I’m also assuming by the question that a simple answer is in order here. I’m looking to help in simple terms not publish a technical manual.

I am fully aware of what you mean and you are right regarding the chips in question. But Asus is still picky when it comes to memory chips.

Lighten up will you! I joined the forum to see if I could be of help and learn as well, not start a tech war. I’m sure your title is safe.

itbeginner: We prefer to use ASUS boards in all PCs and Workstations because of their quality. TYAN and ASUS in Low/High-end Servers. Make sure(no matter where you buy) to get the RETAIL version mobo/cpu so you get 3 year warranty on the parts; mobo, cpu, heatsink/fan. The ASUS P4PE is a great board with that(2.4)cpu.
