I have spent hours upon hours researching the following warnings in my event log to try to determine what is causing them, but have been completely unsuccessful. I am hoping that someone will have run into this issues and be able to point me in the right direction.

I have looked at every piece of documentation that I can get my hands on, and I have no idea what the problem really is or how to solve it. I have seen the error listed in SWYNK's mail archives, but there is not a solution listed, so I know I'm not the only one that has gotten these errors.

I am running Windows 2000 Server, IIS 5.0 and Exchange 2000 Server in Native Mode (no pre-Exchange 2000 servers), all with the most current patch release levels.

The following errors are logged in my event log every 10 minutes.

Event:

Date: 9/7/2003 Source: MSExchangeMTA

The details for this error as listed on Microsoft's site after clicking the link above are:

Details Product: Exchange ID: 9307 Source: MSExchangeMTA Version: 6.5.0000.0 Message: (%2%3(%4) Proc %5) Address Registration failed for transport type : %1 (8) Explanation Address registration failed for transport type. User Action Make sure that the required ports are not blocked. Check the event logs for additional related errors. If the problem persists, contact Microsoft Product Support Services.

Note: I have no idea what ports this message is referring to, and can find no other information in the event log that would point me in any direction at all.

Lastly, these errors do not appear to be causing any mail delivery issues.

Any help/guidance would be sincerely appreciated.

The transport types are:

Type 0x01 stands for RFC 1006
Type 0x02 stands for TP4
Type 0x03 stands for Eicon X.25
Type 0x04 stands for Named pipes over RAS connection
Type 0x05 stands for RPC

However, this warning is not an indication that anything is wrong. Most
likely it is occurring if you have diagnostic logging levels set to Maximum
on the MTA. If there are other symptoms or errors occurring, they would be
more relevant than this particular event.

Go to System Manager- Admin groups- First admin group-
highlight your exchange server- right click- properties-
Diag tab- Highlight MSExchamgeMTA- highlight directory access- Change from maximum to none. That should fix it up.
