msdn 2000 and XP service pack 2

We cant connect via odbc since we installed SP 2.
This is what I have done so far...
1. Add the SQL Server port 1433 on both the client and server machines.
2. Add the program to the exceptions list on both PC's. Also make sure that the File and Printer Sharing Exception is also allowed. This is required as the need port 139 and 445.
