I have a new MSDE database with SP4. I have configured it with a complex password (No choice). The problem I am running into is that I cannot login to the database as SA. I receive an error that SA is not associated with a trusted SQL Server Connection. I do have mixed mode set (Verified with a check of the registry and xp_loginconfig).

This is the normal way that I access the client databases to configure them as I am not necessarily the local administrator and this worked fine with sp3a.

O.K., figured it out on my own. MSDE with SP4 installed will no longer change login modes on the fly. Eventhough the database said it was in mixed mode, it was not. Mixed mode does not take affect till it restarts.

That's good to know......it appears there's a few differences with SP4 that make large changes.

Another is that the version number used to increment and was around 9xx. SP4 starts with version 20xx. (I don't know the exact numbers).

We have a third party app that can't 'read' the version number now and thinks that it's unpatched. Luckily the vendor found out about this and warned us not to patch until they solve the issue and change the app.
