MSDE Attach and Detach without Enterprise Manager

There seems to be something of a "no man's land" in documentation when it comes to my problem. I have started a project in MSDE installed with Access 2000. Enterprise Manager is unavailable, so it appears that I have to Attach/detach my dB from an alternate dB. I have managed to detach it with much trial and error. I have copied the mdf and idf files to my other drive and placed them in the data file. I have also copied the adp and txt files generated from my back up. I then created an alternate dB to run my Attach procedure. When it runs it said that it performed correctly but did not return any files. However, when I attempt to open my dB, I receive a "No such interface supported" message. I have since returned to my original dB and have tried to re-attach it and I have the same error. Now I'm really stuck. I fear that I have lost my dB. Can anyone please help or point me to a GOOD source of information. I have found sufficient little snipets here and there, but none are comprehensive enough to call it a "How to". Thanks

Bob

If you don't know, MSDE is basically SQL Server.

The only difference is that there is a performance throttler built into the server. (This encourages you to buy the full version when you actually start using it to do something).

The other main difference is that it is shipped without all the fancy tools (enterprise manager, query analyser, olap..) that you get with sql server.

Anything you want to do in MSDE can be done through either transact sql statements or the SQLDmo.dll that you MSDE installs for you.

Thanks for reading the above problem. It was the right approach, the problem was that some how the connection(s) setting was changed. Once I corrected that I was in. Thanks again. Bob
