Hi all:
what is the equivalent of MSconfig that existed in win98 for XP?
cheers

Experience it, there is no substitute.

Start, Run (or open a Windows Prompt) and type in

msconfig

and press enter.

Somehow I don't get it to run.I thought it didn't exist at all.
Thanks for prompt replies

There may be a Path issue.
right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced tab.
Environmental Variables at the bottom.

It should with an edit show at least:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;

If not, repair the entry.

Then do a Start, Run, sfc /Scannow and have your XP installation CD handy.

Reboot to see the changes.

By the way:

Start, Run, c:\windows\system32\msconfig.exe

Msconfig must be run by an Administrator.

It should be in C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries

You are right as always linney, I did copy msconfig.exe to \\\system32 for convenience.

Let me take the opportunity to plug a freeware tool by Sysinternals called AutoRuns as a replacement for MSCONFIG. It is substantially more capable a utility:
And, hey, it is freeware.
Just a great job by Sysinternals.
