hi everyone i am currently in the process of preparing for my 70291 exam and i am having some difficulties with supernetting subnetting and superscopes. If anyone has any better ideas information and books that can help me because i am currently using the ms press book and it just does seem to be talking to me right. thanks

If you really want to understand it go right to the source.

RFC 791 - IP
RFC 950 - Subnetting
RFC 1338 - Supernetting

These can be very heavy going. Other than that just do a web search. There are a stack of sites that explain this stuff in different ways. Find the one that works for you.

Can you be a little more specific about what part you aren't getting? If I remember from the book there are some example using the windows calc.

This is important to remember as you have access to windows calc during the tests. And it does have a bin mode on it that you can use. I know this because it's how I passed that part of the test.

dondadda1,

Subnetting and supernetting can be a difficult thing to grasp at first. I was fortunate enough to have an instructor-led class for this, but still some folks had difficulty with understanding it.

I had a question on the 70-291 exam that asked the range of valid IP addresses for a specific IP address and subnet mask.

One site that I found was very good with subnetting information was If that doesn't work for you, there are plenty of other resources out there on the net.

I just passed the 70-291 test about two weeks ago. There were very few questions about subnetting and supernetting, but if you just learn to use the calculator they are very easy. The only thing I used was the MS press books, which admittedly BARELY teaches anything about IP. I am learned most of the info from hands on job experience.
