I have a Word document in which I want to insert pagenumbers. The page number format is set to start at 1 and Page x of x. I have inserted the page number into my footer but in every page the page number appears as 0 of 31. Any help appriciated. Thanks. Paul.

Paul,

Page number is a "field" in Word which has to be updated to often show the correct values.

There is an option in Tools Options Print called "Update Fields" which should always be ticked to say update fields before Printing. Set this and then try printing the last page to see if it shows the correct page number.

There have been problems with some Word versions in this area, so if this does not solve your problems you may need to check out Microsoft at:

Good Luck!

Thanks for the tip. I have now checked Update Fields and printed off the last page but I am afraid the problem persists.

What are you running? If it's 97, I believe there's a patch that needs to be loaded to correct this problem. Let me know and I'll try to find it for you.

We have now found a solution. There was a logo or graphic in a header. As soon as this was removed, page numbering (in the footer) worked faultlessly !
I converted the graphic to a .bmp file, re-inserted it and page numbering continued to function correctly.

Thanks to those who replied.

Paul
