I suddenly have a document opening when I open word. If I click on the "new doc" icon I stil get the same doc. It will count document1.. document2.. etc. as long as I click it.
Any ideas where to change the default blank doc?
You have most likely accidentally changed your Normal.dot template file.
What you'll need to do is either:
1- get someone to email you the true blank Normal.dot
2- open the "new" document, remove all text, formatting, etc. Go to File > Save As select Document Template from the list on the bottom, name as Normal.dot. It'll ask you to replace it most likely.
Then, close word, open word, and see if the problem is fixed.

When will I be able to see what other members can see about myself? It's been like, a freakin' month already!
If you have got content in your Normal.dot template which you do not want, you can edit the template to remove it.
Normal.dot is probably in:
C:\Documents and Settings\(userid)\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
If not, search for it.
When you have the containing folder open in My Computer (or Windows Explorer) RIGHT Click on Normal.dot and select Open to open the template for editing (do NOT double click on it as that will just give you a document based on the template).
With Normal.dot open for editing delete the content you do not want and save it.
Enjoy,
Tony

OK, just a few things to reinforce what cLFlaVA and Tony have said.
Firstly if you have MS Office the normal.dot is likely to be in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates" folder.
Secondly if this is the case and you don't really save any autotexts or autocorrects simply delete this normal.dot and restart Word. This will automatically create a new, clean normal.dot template for you.
Thirdly if you don't want a document opening when you start Word, right click on your Word icon, select properties, and at the end of the target string type " /n". This is the switch that stops Word opening a default document when you open Word. If you find that this box is greyed out, delete the icon, find the Word .exe, create a shortcut, move it to where you normally have your icon, and then add the switch.
