MS SteadyState

SteadyState is the new name and latest version for the Shared Computer Toolkit, if you are familiar with that. To quote Microsoft from the Windows SteadyState FAQ.

Does Windows SteadyState work with Windows servers, Group Policy, and/or Active Directory?

Yes, it works in a server environment with Group Policy and Active Directory. In general server tools are recommended for controlling user restrictions. However, the Windows Disk Protection feature of Windows Steady State is recommended to protect the operating partition of shared computers. For more information see the Windows SteadyState Handbook.

I have some Shared meeting room computers that I would like to lockdown. Do you recommend SteadyState in a Domain environment or just use GPO to lock down a workstation?

I like the idea of the hard drive protection and it not keeping anything local or left behind by the last user after a reboot.

Whatever you do with SteadyState, test it in a proper test environment first and see how it performs. I only tried it once in a Virtual Machine just to see what it was all about. The end result for me was a wrecked operating system, probably my own ignorance, but be aware these things can happen when you apply disk access restrictions.
