We installed the trial version of Microsoft SQL 2000 (instance 1). The trial license is nearly up. So, we tried installing the licensed copy of Microsoft SQL 2000 Developer Edition w/SP4(instance 2). However, we are unable to see instance 2 in the enterprise manager. We only see the local server with the databases created in instance 1.

We are not sure what to do. We need to see the databases created in instance 1 in instance 2 (licensed version). We backed them up before installing instance 2.

We confirmed that both instances are running.

In the add/remove programs in the control panel, it shows "MS SQL 2000" and right below it is "MS SQL 2000 (INSTANCE 2).

The option to upgrade when installing the licensed version was greyed out (so we couldn't upgrade the trial version).

This is installed on Windows Server 2003 w/SP2 machine.

Basically, we are looking for help migrating to the licensed version and seeing it, along with the databases created in instance 1, in the enterprise manager.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

what error do you get when you try and register the second instance???

The second Instance should be registered as servername\instancename

We don't even get the option to register that instance. In the server list that shows up when we try to register, only the first instance shows up.

I think we are just going to do a full uninstall and install only one instance (the licensed version that we purchased) to see if that clears up the issues.

thank you for your response!

In Enterprise manage right click and select Register Server. Then check the box to get out of the wizard. Type in the servername\instnace name of the second instance.
