Could someone help with differences between standard and professional.
Thanks

I'm assuming you've seen Microsoft's comparison chart? (
I recently just made a decision to go with Project Pro instead of Standard. There are a few features that I've run across available only in the Pro version that cemented the difference. Try getting "Microsoft Project: Step by Step" and read through it. The Pro-only features are noted throughout the text, and they made the difference for me.

yes there is about a $500 difference; so it depends on your price sensitivity; but read up on the differences as I mentioned, and see if it seems worth it to you. One of the differences is the ability to designate Tasks as "inactive" or not. I find that very useful for what-if analysis. In Standard, you can only just completely delete a Task, and then you have to re-enter it. I find that more cumbersome, particularly if with a large complex project.

In addition to Scott's comments - the Professional Version is the only version that can connect to Project Server. The inactive tasks, task planner view, sync with SharePoint, and connection to SharePoint Server are really the key differentiators.

Sounds like standard may be sufficient for my needs
