HI there:
I have a very simple project in MSProject 2003.
I multiply Duration 1 (Budget hs) by Number 1 (Probability) to obtain Duration 2 (Probable Hours) and I use automatic calculation.
For some reason, after I close MS Project and then start the project again, it will stop calculating automaticcally (e.g. I need to force a calculation) and there is no way I find to make it calculate again
Any tips? Thanks in advance!

The most obvious (which you've probably already done -- but I'll mention them anyway):

1. Tools > Options > Calculation-tab
Is "Calculation mode" set to automatic?

2. Start up the project. Press Alt+F11 to open the VBA window.

On the left side, you'll see "VBAProject(YourProjectName). If you see a plus sign in a box next to it, click on the plus symbols to expand all the lower levels.

One of the levels will read "ThisProject(YourProjectName)". Click once on it.

On the right side, on the left above the large space, you'll see a dropdown which has "Project" and "(General)". Select "Project".

On the right side (again), on the right above the large space, you'll see a dropdown which has a series of items. If any of those options is in bold then look at the VBA code there.

3. Does this happen with a specific project file or all project files?

Hi
Thanks for your fast response, no bold items inside VBA
But I have more information about my problem
I've noticed that the automatic calculation stops after using grouping:
EG: I create a blank project, two custom numbers, Number 2 = Number 1 * 2 (always start with the simplest!!
To do a simle way to group, I create 3 tasks, 2 with the same priorities
When I group by priority, formulas still work automaticcally
When I close the project and come back again, gone, doesn't update any more
If in in the same simple project I don't do grouping, I close and reopen and automatic calculation still works!
any tips?

Thanks!

Please upload the file.

To anonymize it:
View > Gantt
Insert the UniqueID column
Copy the UniqueID column and paste it over the Name column.

View > Resource Sheet
Insert the UniqueID column
Copy the UniqueID column and paste it over the Name column.

HI, thanks again
Please find copy of project that no longer calculates automatically after having done grouping (in this case, grouped by priority)
Thanks for all your effort!

I'm not sure if the file upload worked, can you verify if you can get it?

Got it. Can't look at it tonight ... maybe tomorrow.

HI PDQBach: did you have the chance to look at my project? I still don't figure out why it stops calculating once I group by any parameter! Thanks again!
