I am having a problem when opening Word. Error message: "Word automatically saved changes to the normal document template. Do you want to close it?

yes no

Recover any work and start MS Office Word."

If I clik on YES it goes around in circles. If I click NO it closes the program.
When I first discovered this problem I uninstall and reinstalled MS office but I still have the same problem. The rest of the applications PowerPoint, Excel, etc; in MS Office work fine.

fumei,

Can you tell me where to look for if any add-ins are being loaded?

Thank you,

Tools > Templates and Add-ins

However, while it may not be something being added, (but it may), you should also check to see if there are any COM Add-ins. The default is to NOT have these visibly listed - unlike Templates and Add-ins.

You have to add COM Add-ins to the Tools menu, in order to see any COM add-ins. Type COM into Help, and follow the instructions to add "COM Add-ins" to the the Tools menu. Then check to see if you have any.

The point being is that it appears something is changing normal.dot. If you are not doing it - or are you? - then something else is doing it.
