Hi all:

I'm using Win7 and need to install MS Jet download. I tried the SP8, but it tells me it's a different hardware version. Since this is Microsoft's latest/greatest (to my knowledge), am I missing something?

Thanks,

Why do you need to download Jet? According to MS, jet is installed by default, as part of the OS install. Therefore, Jet, according to MS, is not downloadable.

Look here for possible answers to any conflicts you are having:

What, if any errors are you getting? Are you running under Windows 7 64 bit?

You can also do a google search with keywords like: microsoft jet oledb 4.0 windows 7.

Thanks for the answer, but no help.

Win7 64 bit.

I don't have IIS set up yet, and am wondering why that would have anything to do with it.

This is a new PC that I migrated old programs to, and everything that I used for text/csv files errors the same: Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0....

Didn't work. Here's the message:

Operation failed: The 'MS Access Database' provider is not registered on the local machine.

Not sure if this is what you need, but maybe it will get you on the right track:

Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable

There is a 32-bit and a 64-bit version.

You could also try targeting your application to x86 CPUs, which will force the app to run as 32-bit. Go to Project->(ProjectName) Properties->Compile->Advanced Compile Options and set Target CPU to x86.

What I do is keep Jet connection strings for legacy systems, but I use ACE for everything else since that is what Microsoft is pushing any way. Which if I read the whole thread I would see Jebenson is pointing you to.

Hmm. Weird, as the Jet engine is supposed to be a part of the install. I'm running Windows 7 Ultinmate and have Office 2003 installed, including MS Access 2003. I've never had a problem opening a db in Access, either through Access itself, or programmatically.

What IS interesting is, I tried to configure a user DSN, I get a message about drivers not found, and then an error indicating an architecture mismatch between driver and application.

I've always heard that Jet was installed, but I've never been able to use it unless I got the Redistributable or installed office. I don't know if it is part of a component I don't commonly install for windows or what.

Thanks everyone.

Oddly, the same thing is happening on my laptop (Vista). I'm out of town, so I'll check it when I get back.

I added the db to the Server Explorer and voila, works like a charm.

Now, when I deploy to another machine, what will happen? I'm used to the DLLs being moved with the app.

Thanks for everyone's help.
