Hi All,

We've got many MS Exchange Server within our organisation. We perform full backups of all of them. Most of the servers back up just fine, but some of them generate the following error:

"N8640
dbaexchis Version 11.5 Build 3884 8-9-2005 Microsoft Exchange Server 2K/up
N8653
Converting connection protocol to named pipes due to connection error."

The IS still backs up, but much slower.
Has anyone got an idea why is this happening?
We use BAB 11.5
The ports settings are correct. No firewalls between source servers and the backup server.

Thanks a lot.

Michael.

vschumpy,

Thanks for your reply.
As I mentioned in the post, the ports config is correct.
I had a look at the CA supportconnect site before I posted the question. I'v got about 10 Exchange servers. Most of them are fine. There are just two or three servers that generate this error.

Both server and client use port 6074.
Really strange.....

Thanks again.

Michael

Hello,
I have the same problem sometimes with a MS Exchange Server 2K, and sometimes without any changes in the configuration I don't have the problem
****************************************************
N8640
dbaexchis Version 11.1 Build 3200 7-22-2004 Microsoft Exchange Server 2K/up
N8653
Converting connection protocol to named pipes due to connection error.

And the backup process is very slow, if you find a solution please let us know

Couple of things you can check,

1) Check if the port 6074 is listening on the exchange server by running the below command from the cmd prompt

Telnet servername\ipaddress 6074

2) You could also run netstat -na and see if the port 6074 is listening

3) CHeck if you have a firewall or someother software blocking the port

4) Try backing up the machine using named resolution (On the backup server right click on the machine and Modify agent and check use named resolution)
