I have MS Exchange 5.5 behind my firewall. How can I re-establish my Internet Mail Connection to my ISP after it has been lost, without rebooting my Exchange server?

You probably already have the answer to this, but I use Exchange Server 4.0 and when I have this problem, I usually stop my Internet Mail Connector Service, reboot my Proxy server, and restart the IMC Service.

What type of firewall is it? What type of router do you use for the Internet connection? Typically connections are static and when reconnected, traffic flow is supposed to continue. You may have routing protocols that are not needed that indicates when a route is down, re route to xyz and when the connection comes back up the change back to live connection does not happen. Are you using switching or hubs? Also do you suffer a lot of outages? There are still some items that you may want to address so we can better understand the nature of your problem and help you better.
