When opening Excel it has 3 worksheets (Sheet1, sheet2, and Sheet3) Normally if you right click on the sheet you have the option of deleting. Also if you go to Edit you have the option to Delete Sheet.
In my case if I right click nothing happens. If I go to Edit, the option to delete sheet is in gray, so I do not have that option.
I ave reinstalled and ran a repair for Excel and that did not fix it. I do not have any protection enabled on the machine.
Any idea what this can be, or how to fix it so I can delete a worksheet from Excel? I am using IOffice 2003 (excel 2003)

Thank you

Not what you asked, but you can change the default number of sheets in a new workbook by going to Tool > Options > General > Sheets In A New Workbook.

As for your immediate problem, it sounds like the workbook is protected.

I have the option of protecting the workbook, so with that i assume that it is not protected.
Anybody have any ideas?

Is the workbook shared?
Tools, Share workbook.......

Is this issue just with one workbook?

I understand that this may be the workbook that opens automatically when excel opens?

If you File,New Workbook do you have the same issues?

Try
File, Properties
What do you see on the General tab?

If you File,New Workbook do you have the same issues?

THis also happens if I open up a new workbook. THe workbook is not shared.
All I want to be able to do is delete a worksheet. If I riight click not happens, and I know my right click works because I can right click anywhere else and it will work. Also if I go to edit "delete worksheet" is gray, so it does not give me that option. I can hide the worksheet, but I want to delete.
Also if i send an excel file oto anyone they are able to delete worksheet. It is just my pc that does not allow it for some reason.

Tools, Track Changes, Highlight Changes. Uncheck "Track Changes While Editing"

Sounds like a permissions issue to me. Are you working through a VPN/Terminal Services type set-up? Are you on your own box and an adminstrator on that machine? I would go to your Network Admin and ask if there is a permission setting soemwhere that is set so you can't delete tabs out of a workbook.

I am one of the admins for this machine and I do have any permissions disbaled for it. I was seeing if there was anything for this user in group policy but so far no luck.

Did you try xlhelp's suggestion? Sounds most likely cause to me.

In any event the issue is that a new workbook has these characteristics - wherever they come from. A new workbook is based upon the template Book.xlt. I would try deleting this file.
Usually this is found in:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\XLStart
If the files aren't in the XLStart folder, look in the folder specified in the At startup, open all files in box on the General tab in the Options dialog box (Tools menu).

If your organisation has customised the Book.xlt then get someone to open a new workbook and send it to you. Open it and save in the XLstart folder as a template.
