I am wanting to create a "Pie of Pie" chart within Excel, but apparently, what I want is not the way it is setup. I want to be able to do it this way:

Excel Sheet:
------------------
Fruit Color Count
Apple Red 2
Apple Green 3
Apple Yellow 1
Apple Total 6
Orange Orange 4
Orange Yellow 3
Orange Green 1
Orange Total 8
Grand Total 14
-----------------

So, what I have is data that is setup with subtotals, and I want to include just the type of fruit for all but Apple, and I want the secondary pie chart to be of the Apple colors.

Is this possible in just one chart, or do I have to just create 2 different charts, and put them side by side on a worksheet?

I would surely think there is some way of doing this, but I've never done it that I can recall.

Thanks for any help!

I came across this site a while back. It includes directions for making some pretty spiffy-looking pie of pie charts.

By using the data arranged like this, I was able to create a Pie of pie chart, with on ly one change from the default. I wern to Format Data Series > Options, and changed the 2nd plot to include the last 3 options instead of the default 2.

Fruit Color Count
Orange 14
Apple Red 4
Apple Green 5
Apple Yellow 3

anotherhiggins,
Thanks for the link. I'm going to try and read over that and get a better understanding this morning if possible.

sawedoff,
Could you expand a little by what you mean by, "I wern to Format Data Series > Options, and changed the 2nd plot to include the last 3 options instead of the default 2."

Of course, it could just be that I'm still half-asleep, I think. [sleeping]

Oops - typo - should have said "I went".

After chart generated, I selected the chart, right click and choose Format Data Series, then under the options tab, change the number in the field that says "Second plot contains the last: # Values."

Ahh, ok. I'll take a look at that. That seems a very interesting concept. I think I can tinker with the data (it's just a summary, anyway) enough to get that outcome. [wink]
