MRxSmb\Device\LanmanRedirector 3

On my home network, I have a XP Pro sp2 laptop connected via 802.11b Dell truemobil 1180 wireless card going to a Linksys router/access point. I also have a XP Pro sp2 desktop and Win 2000 Pro desktop all connected to the router.
When I connect from the laptop to any of the desktops, I continually get this "MRxSmb\Device\LanmanRedirector HOME NetBT_Tcpip" Event ID 6004 Error is the Event Log. Anyway, connecting to the Internet and upload/download no problems all day long. But when I attempt to move files from the laptop to one of the desktops I get the error. Not just once, but probably once every 1.5 to 3min.
Now this is a fairly new issue, but I have been attempting to figure this out for sometime now before sending it on to the Big Guns.
Have already re-installed drivers on the Dell Truemobil 1180 wireless adapter but made no difference. I am lost as to why this is happening.
Anyone with any idea's or had this problem before. The info I get back tells me that it's not a big deal error and that I could ignor it, but if I do some file transfers or backup my laptop to workstation, then the event log on the laptop will fill right up with these "MRxSmb\Device\LanmanRedirector HOME NetBT_Tcpip" error 6004, and at that point it's hard to ignor.
No changes to anything else other than the updates via MST Updater.

I'm back..
Well I read thru and followed Bill C. Advise. Now I'm experiencing a Very Slow Internet Connection, and my LAN is now producing a different error saying that there are packet errors in the event log and that the packet is the error. I'm trying to look up the event id and code 6004 and the source is the Event Log?? Hmmm..
I tried the speed and tweak tester on the DSL site, and speed was <100 and tweak was showing only the RWIN as needing adjustment.
Does any of this make sense to either of you or anyone else?

Looking over some of the latest threads for the XP Pro, looks like several are having Networking issues that are all fairly close in nature.
I'm going to try and re-do bcastner thread, and also remove the network adapters before restarting, and see what happens when it re-starts.
It's about the only thing I haven't tried yet.

I think the idea is to disable (as opposed to remove) any unused (as opposed to used) network adapters.

It's always the fine print that kills me too.

Well, uninstalling the Wireless Card and the On Board Nic, and re-installing seems to have only made things worse. Speed dropped thru the bottom, so I did a Rebuild/Repair from a slipstreamed CD. Got it done, and it seems to be operating back to original, but still getting the original error in the event log when transferring data from one of me desktops.

Here's a paste of the latest one. Speed over the wiress lan seems to be back to normal, but I cannot get a solid test from DSL Reports, I'm not sure why, the test keeps erroring out. The Tweak tesk shows everything ok, No probs or yellow smillys.

Well, it's always good to spend a bit of time and Rebuild/reinstall your OS from time to time. Fortunatly I have my labtop configured with separate partitions so I can rebuild easily and not have to worry about loosing data. Just bugs, worms, and any other thing that happens along my way. HEY, as I tell everyone, these bugs and viruses are just attempts for these programmers and young minds to reach out and spread their arms around us all for a big loving hug. Just no one told them to clean up first.

Well, if anyone has any ideas on what direction to go next, I would be very greatful for your assistance.

Ok, made the registry adjustment. Now I have to try some file swapping w/ the laptop.

It's aweful to think that this all probably started because of an Adware or mailware bug.

I hope this helps someone else from getting into all this.

This is the Original error that started it all. This error will show up every couple of seconds untill the connection is closed and not just the download/upload is finished.

I have downloaded the file and so far I have not had any more of the MrxSMB errors when I connect to one of my desktops from my laptop.

I also determined that I think Adware is the culprit. I had the Adwatch set to Automatic and turned On when starting up. What happens is that even changes to your registry because of Updates or even Software Installs get flagged and Adware will catch them and either remove them or put them back to the way they were. I turned the Adwatch setting from Automatic to Manual, and so now it will ask me to either accept the change or remove it. I would watch for this type of automatic Adware feature in what ever product your using.

I hope this helps out for someone.
