HI All ,

We’ve had this re-occuring issue with MO’s and MRP

Basically as we are constantly having to change MO’s , BOM’s are often updated daily , and so MO’s require constant attention… , Our problem is that when we go and change and existing MO , it blows away the requirement to “buy” the parts ,that is until MRP is ran , then they have visibility to purchase ,

I don’t have a lot of experience with ERP systems , nor do I know MRP functions as I’d like too , but from my understanding with other ERP’s , You can change BOMs , MO’s etc , and once the change is invoked, purchasing then sees the requirement , not have to wait to run MRP ….

Currently we run MRP twice a week , and I’ve heard mixed reports on company’s either having to run it on a daily basis , or on a weekly basis ,

Does anyone else have to workaround the issue of purchasing having a lack of visibility? ,

Thanks

Brent B

The word is actually EXPLODE not blows away.

You're right and wrong at the same time. I've implemented other MRP systems in the past including BAAN now called SSA Global and you can set the MRP to run in the background without waiting EOD to run it. This is where SQL Server needs to catch up and I hope SQL Server 2005 would be it.

Wrong because the system would not know the changes made in the BOM and the shortages it created unless a sales order is created on a make item thus creating an MO. This stage won't create the shortage in the buy items, it's when you do the MO Receipt that the components reduces thus creating a need to purchase.

If you have 10,000 components in your system, no one person would know where the shortages are unless you run MRP. In our case we have 25,000 components and 4 people run MRP the whole day.

Once again Duke , thanks much for your helpful insight... , Explode is a little more accurate , hehe ;)

So your saying you have 4 people in your corp running MRP all day long? ,

We have everyone log out of the system and it's run via remote desktop at midnight ,but only twice a week... , Sounds like we need to get into running this more often?

MBS would suggest running it at night, you can create a macro then run the task automatic in the system at midnight or whatever time there's no users.

The reason we need to run it multiple times during the day because some of our vendors are in Asia and Europe so its the time difference.
