Boss has this supplier's video he wants to play. Win 2K Win Media Player 9 ( 9.00.00.2980 - just upgraded today). Sure enough the file will not play. I get the message that the format is not valid or the file is corrupt.
I know the file is fine cause it plays on my PC - Win XP Win Media Player 8 (8.00.00.4487). It will also play on my laptop using DivX player. So I am guessing it is an issue with available codecs? Is there a way to add new codecs or other upgrades to WMP other than it's own internal update utility? Any ideas why an older version of WMP will work where newer one does not? Possible hardware issues?

Thanks in advance...
Chris

I suspect a codec problem... I always get help of this sort at DVDrHelp.com

They have about everything you would want to know about video..........

You should be able to get all the newest Codecs for Media Player off windows update. Or just download it straight from there download site.

Will try DVDHelp, seems to me I may have been there once in the past...

As far as Windows Update, this has already been done with no effect.

Odd that older version of WMP works where newer one does not. Do you think it may be because some other program has installed the codec that is required?
