I am new to flash and trying to make a cd with mpeg video on the cd using a flash interface to link between them. If you can help I would be grreatly appreciative.
Could you convert the MPEG to AVI format? That way you could batch-export the frames and then import them into the Flash Movie, controlling it is easy from there.
Yes I can but I am worried about the extremely large file size that I have to deal with if I convert into an .AVI. If you might know any way that I can create a smaller file size than avi please contact me.
IMHO, a good compromise between avi and mpeg would be QT.
Depending on what kind of control you want over these movies (just like the usual play, pause, stop, and the sort kind of control), I know Dave as some particular uses such as the unusal reverse play, you might even consider stream encoding with Realplayer or the Windows MediaPlayer.
Encoding at high bit rates, since you're on a cd, will assure very good quality and cuts down the size of a file tremendously!
I believe the last version of Quicktime can play mpgs. Maybe not all of them, hopefully your's. Get the free player if you don't have it, to test your file. If it works, then just get Quicktime Pro ($30.00 US) which will permit you to convert to .mov or .avi or wave & and many other formats.
oldnewbie,
Thanks I have the quick time play and it seems to be working fine on the conversion part now all I have to do is intergrate it into flash. Thanks
Old mentioned something I made a few months ago which could be used to control playback of flash movies. I use this this template to put avi files on Cd-rom within a Flash movie. As your using a CD-rom it doesn't have the same Kb restrictions as you would have on the Internet. The only drawback is that the quality is only as good as you create it. Your definitely better using a separate player for your MPEG/AVI/MOV clips but sometimes you need to integrate them into Flash, and that's the position I was in when I made this. I've uploaded one of the earlier beta versions, but everything contained within it is in working order:
After uploading the above my FTP software has crashed out so if you e-mail me I'll forward the zipped fla if you're interested. I'll try again with the upload to my server later on.
