We have a domain /MMMMM, currently two servers, NotesAAA/Western/MMMMM and NotesBBB/Eastern/MMMMM, with users being set up into three unites, Joe_Smith/Western/MMMMM (these user's mailfiles 'live' on the Western server), Joe_Smith/Eastern/MMMMM and Joe_Smith/South/MMMMM (these user's mailfiles 'live' on the Eastern server).<br><br>We are now adding a third server, this server will be NotesCCC/South/MMMMM. All users currently 'living' on the Eastern server are to be moved to the South server.<br><br>What is the most efficient way to make this move? What is involved in this, the logical order of the steps etc?<br><br> <br>

Moving user's to new server

Your best solution is to use R5 for this. R5 includes the tools to do this under the covers.<br><br>If you're stuck with R4.6, create new replicas of the user mailboxes on the South server and then make sure the servers are replicating. Then update your NAB so that it points users to the new mail file location. Finally, send the users a button that updates this information in their location documents. <br><br>I'll have to see if I can dig up the script that does this. We are running R5 on all servers involved, so I will plan to use the tools Lotus offers.<br><br>My first step would be to move the user from Eastern to South correct? Then move the mailfiles?<br><br>Would it be more effective to do a tape of all the data in the user's mailfiles and restore this to the new server from tape, or best done over the WAN?<br><br>Thanks for your input
I'd do it over the WAN. Kick it off about 3PM on a Friday afternoon and then let it run over the weekend. <br><br>If you use the R5 administrative tools to do this, you're all set. PghMikeH<br><br>Have you used the move user tool in version 5? Does it take care of all the details?<br><br>Is it as simple as doing a 'move' in the administrator client on each person? Does this move their mailfile also, or will we have to also move the mailfile? Will it delete the mailfile from the original server after the move? Or do we do the delete after? It is not necessary to back up the data to a tape and restore from tape? We do have the time advantage as we are doing this on a long weekend, giving us almost 3 days to complete the move.<br><br>Any input would be greatly appreciated ... and thanks for the input to this point also
