Hello,

I have several clients that as of this weekend will be required to dial 10-digits for local numbers. Running 500V2 9.0 SP7 or newer. There are a couple questions I have regarding this...

1. I'd like to allow users to continue dialing with 7-digits for local numbers. This will require a shortcode I presume...something to the effect of..

N;
dial
XXXN Where XXX is the area code.

2. What about the call log...would like to make sure that the full 10-digits appears in the call log so there are no issues while using redial.

Really appreciate any help you can provide. An example existing ARS is included.

Do you only have one local area code. I haven't done a lot in the states (being UK based) but I know when I was working in San Francisco that they had two area codes (415 and 628) and so adding on the area code to 7 digits wasn't possible as it could have been either of the area codes.

However if you do have one area code then I think the shortcode would be something like

XXXXXXX;
Dial
YYYN

Where YYY is the area code.

The problem with the code you listed above is that 10-digit numbers will also try to add the area code. You should do something like this:

xxxxxxx;
dial
xxxN (where xxx is the area code)

As stated above, this will only work if they have (1) local area code.

Thanks very much for the help...wondering one more thing. Is there anything I might need to change in the ARS to ensure that numbers from the local area code don't have it stripped in that call log. In other words...does having the area code included on the number in ARS cause it to be stripped when local calls come in?

No. Whatever is being sent inbound will continue to be sent that way.

Telecomboy you've been a great help...now in order to dial long distance current configuration is 91 + the number. Since I've created the shortcode to add the local area code when dialing 7 digits wondering if I'd need to adjust ARS for this...would like local numbers to not require the one but its not everything.

Thanks again for all the help.

The 1N; short code should be used for non-local calls so it shouldn't be an issue.
