Hi. I also asked this in the Server 2003 category.

Before our upgrade to SBS 2003, we ran an NT network.
Our users connected through our CITRIX server using thin clients.
Terminal Services was installed on the CITRIX server.

When our network was upgraded to SBS 2003, the technician moved TS off the CITRIX server and installed it on another member server (that I want to get rid of).

Is it as simple as shutting off the current TS server and re-enabling TS on the CITRIX server?
Or does SBS 2003 require that TS be on the DC? And if so, would installing the TS components on the DC and shutting down the current TS server work? Are there more steps than that?

Thanks for reading!

There are a few more steps. You have to contact the Microsoft clearing house because when you deactivate your current TS, they will need to issue a new certificate so that you can activate the new/relocated TS.

We don't run 2003 yet, so I'm not well-versed on the CAL subject, but be sure you have documentation and licensing covered for that.

Thanks, I had completely forgotten that part!

It shoould be OK, in Windows 2000 the TS licensing server HAD to be on a DC, however with 2003 it does not need to be.

As lb3640 says clearing house is the way to go. However......

Youo will need a TS CAL for every user OR every client. I would suggest the user if they don't move, or Client if you have client sharers. Licensing is either per user or per client. And ther is no TS client license in built with XP or Windows 2000.

The only way round it is if you can prove you boought your WIndows XP licenses before the 1st April (I think) 2003.

I want to clarify that you're not intending to install Terminal Server on the SBS2003 machine. This can NOT be done, as SBS2003 does NOT support terminal server. You can install the Terminal Server Licensing Service on the SBS2003 machine, but terminal server must remain on a member server.

Thanks!
I want to return TS to the machine it used to be on before our upgrade (which is the CITRIX server, it's just a member server). It already has licensing installed as well, it's just disabled.

Then I hope to retire the server that should have been gone months ago.
