I am trying to move my exchange info from one box to another within the same site. I moved mailboxes, replicated public folders, made instances of public folders, rehomed the public folders, changed the location of the offline address book, and changed the routing calculation server to the new server. When I shut down the old exchange server, I receive this message in event viewer.

Event ID: 9318
Source: MSExchangeMTA

Description: An RPC communications error occurred. Unable to bind over RPC. Locality Table (LTAB) index 12, NT/MTA error code: 1722. Comms error 1722, Bind error 0

I know that it cannot communicate with the old exchange because it is not on, but what is it that I still need to change in order to not get this error? Thanks in advance. Scott

Do you have a server replication service running? Check your connections to see if it tries to connect to the other server and delete that conxion.

The new server is still looking for communication with the other server for some RPC application activity. I think the the advice in the first reply is good. Check any existing connectors. Check for Backup Software Exhange Agent activity. Delete the old server from the site. Doublecheck to which server your Public Folders are homed.
Everything is running smooth; Knock-on-wood. Thanks for the tips.

You might also check Q artilcle 152959 on Technet. It gives instructions on removing your first server in a site.
