Ensure all phones are plugged in and working. Turn on Automatic Set Relocation and wait 10 minutes.
Unplug all of the moving phones. Plug in any ONE phone in it's new location. WAIT UNTIL THE PHONE BOOTS UP AND YOU CAN USE IT TO MAKE CALLS. Then you can plug in the next phone into it's new location. WAIT UNTIL THAT PHONE BECOMES USEABLE.
I cannot stress enough that you need to only plug in one phone at a time and WAIT until it is completely useable before connecting the new one.
This of course assumes that these are all digital phones. If they are IP phones, you can move them at will
The smartest way is to move the crossconnect, if you make a mistake doing autoset relocate you will need to call someone in tat knows what there doing to fix the mess.
This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.
This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.
Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.
I agree with Ace. Set relocation can become messy. Moving crossconnect is the best way. Also if you have a list of ports and extensions set reloc will scramble them
yeah i agree, set relocation can really mess the blocks up and make your phone guys cuss you. but if you can hound dog the phones back to the blocks, just switch the copper to the new jack and punch it down. that way you dont even have to mess with any ports/extensions. and when i mean "hound dog" i mean use a toner (toner/sniffer or some people call them "fox and the hound") that plugs into the jack, then go to the block and use the other device to listen for the tone, do this for both old/new phone locations, and just unplug the copper and punch down the new. then you can rename or whatever you have to do once you get everyone where they are meant to be (physically).
hope that makes sense, i just re-read it and it might sound confusing.
the best way is to get the port #'s of the phones that you are moving and re-cross connect them to your new station cables...and like TOD said if your station cables are not marked then just break out the toner and trace them out back to the frame.
