Folks,

I understand I can move the location of my data files as long as I update the control file with the new location information. However, can I move the location of Oracle Binaries and data files to another server then start the instance on the new server? (The servers are identical, Sun-Fire-280R running Solaris 8)

If I can’t move the location of my Oracle binaries how does VCS handle shared Oracle Binaries in a 2 node cluster?

I hope I’m making sense.

Thanks,

Stickybit.

Modify the location of the oracle home in /var/opt/oratab

I assume you are using /usr/local/bin/oraenv to set up
the environment for users of the database, including your
oracle user.

If you aren't using oraenv, then you will need to modify
the login scripts and change the $ORACLE_HOME variable
manually and make sure the path references the new
$ORACLE_HOME. You might also have to modify $TNS_ADMIN if
it is set. Just check any oracle variables that might
contain paths to the old location.
