Hey everyone. Next week i will be moving a MICS with about 40 extensions from one part of the customer's building to another. Quite a bit of these extension numbers have been changed in the programming. I suspect this may cause some grief? If i punch all the cables down on the system as normal, then check the DN that comes up on the phone, and change it to what it was before will this work fine? For example, say there is a person by the name of John, his extension is currently 327, but he has been punched down directly where 224 is. When i move the system, can i punch John I/C 327 directly down on any port (say 227) then change his DN back to 327? Will all his info come back up correctly with regards to all his personal settings such as lines, features, etc? Thanks a lot in advance.

Well i already wrote down the port numbers and what extensions are on them. So i think i am going to work with set relocation and if that doesnt work then i suppose i will turn it off and use the sheet i have to punch down on the correct ports. How does that sound?

Do it however you like...no one way is perfect and everybody has had a problem with every way at one time or another.

Be aware that a Change DN session will not move lne appearances, answer DN's, or names, so you could end up doing quite a bit of work to rebuild sets as they were.

That said, have fun with it and try to learn.

Set relocation is a great feature and it's fairly dependable if used correctly. The trick is to bring up only one set at a time whenever you use it. Never plug in the next set until you can actually make a call from the last set you connected. Just because the phone stops flashing and shows time and date, doesn't necessarily mean it's actually up and working. It may go back down, flash some more and come back up again. Don't let them fool you!

Here's the easy way to do this:

Turn on set relo,

power the system down and relocate it,

power the system back up with only one Norstar phone cross connected (preferably the receptionists set),

Once you are able to actually place a call from the first phone, bring the rest of the phones on line one at a time and make sure each set is actually up and working before cross connecting the next set.

As long as each person keeps the same phone they started with, all sets will come back up just as they were before and no programming changes will be needed. It doesn't even matter which digital station port you connect them to.

Any analog devices should be connected to the same port as set relocation won't help you on those.

If the system has voice mail, I'd reuse the same ports that were used before unless they were connected to a station module. I always like to use the last available ports on the KSU for voice mail to ensure super fast signalling and just in case a module or an expansion card or a fiber connector fails.
