Hi,

I am in the process of migrating our users from one Exchange Server (V 5.5 SP4 on NT4 SP6a) to a new one (V 5.5 SP4 on W2k SP3). The old server will eventually be decommissioned - hopefully ! Most of the mailboxes have been migrated but I now need to move the Internet Mail Service onto the new server from the old one. We also have another Exchange server in the site but which is in another office (i.e. we are in London, they are in Dublin and we are connected through the corporate LAN).

Any information or tips on the best way to do this and any potential pratfalls I need to be aware of will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Rob.

hi

did you have any luck with this? - i need to do the same thing - I.E - move the IM connector to another server.

thanks

It should be pretty painless to mirror the settings over from every tab in the connector and then start it.

The biggest deal is obviously to make sure that whatever the mail domain name is, That it resolves to the address of the new server. Taking the old servers IP address and assigning it to the new server is best. This option is better so there is not a DNS replication lag in the mail. The second option is to change the DNS, but then you will have mail going to both servers for a 0-4 day period as DNS replicates over the internet. That can be a real pain because then you have to move the mail off the old server onto the new one until it stops coming in.
