Moving History Data 1

Can you safely move the dated history (ie. 20070131) directories out of the Aloha Directory or put it in a sub-directory. There is 5 years of data in there now and can take several minutes just to open the directory in explore. Is there a process for this or will it just keep getting bigger.

Any Help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can move the data anywhere and it is actually encouraged rather than purging it (save it in case of IRS/State Audit).

However, you will not be able to run reports through Aloha on the dates you have moved. A 3rd party app can, or if you can temporarily move the data back if need be.

Actually, that very last point is not true. There is an RKB about this, '6607 - Creating a Second Aloha Folder for Historical Reports' which we use a lot. Moving a lot of data kan really improve the performance of the serve.

Basicly,

- create a folder somewhere on your BOH server where you want to move the files to, call it like 'Aloha2003'. (We create folders per year)
- COPY the following folders from the live aloha directory into your new storage folder, but make sure all aloha applications and services are closed or stopped before copying the BIN-folder:
Bin
Bmp
CRW
Data
Html
NewData
RptSet
Tmp
-MOVE all the subdated directories for that year into your new storage folder.
- Now all you have to do is create a shortcut on your desktop for the AlohaMgr.exe in the BIN of your new storagefolder and assign an IBERDIR variable in it's path. The path for aboveused example could be:

c:\Aloha2003\Bin\AlohaMgr.exe /IBERDIR c:\Aloha2003

When using the shortcut, the Aloha Manager you're starting ignores the local IBERDIR that has been set, and looks to the new folder.
