Hello,

I was wondering if it was at all possible to move from a windows 2000 AD setup to a new windows 2003 R2 AD with a different domain/forest?

Can the users, computers, printers and other AD objects be migrated from a Windows 2000 domain to a new windows 2003 R2 domain?

The idea is to change the domain name to the new corporate domain, with a different OU tree (more logically created with regards to sites & locations), as well as to upgrade and take advantage of 2003 R2.

Thanks for the info in advance!

Is it possible? Yes. You could install the new 2003R2 servers with the new domain name, setup a trust with your existing domain, then use ADMT to bring the users over to the new AD.

What's your environment like? How many users...servers...etc?

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

It's not a large environment.

Currently:
W2k AD DC (plus W2k 2nd DC)
2k3 w/Exchange 2003
2k3 citrix box

about 50-60 users

So I want to keep the Exchange system intact while getting everything on 2k3r2 and moving to and updated and more intuitive AD schema/OU organization.

Do I have to worry about forests? (Can the domains be in the same forest? or does it have to be separate?)
