Hi,

I am currently running Office 2003 on my personal laptop and getting ready to purchase and install Office 365 Home. Which steps do I need to follow in order to move my .pst from one version to the next so I don't lose appointments, contacts, subfolders, etc.? I did a Google search but haven't found anything really helpful as in steps to follow.

Thank you,
K

K,
If it's a .pst, you won't need to do anything in preparation. Just install Office 365, and once you have Outlook running, just right click on "Archives" and select "Open File Location" (then navigate to where your .pst file is, and you're good).
You can actually do this while having Office 2003 and Office 365 both installed on the same machine. The .pst format hasn't changed since it was created so it works across all versions of Office.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for your reply. I actually did what you said with a trial version of Office 365. When I first opened Outlook it configured my email. Then I opened my old outlook.pst and it was a mess.

In the left pane I had a folder with the same name as my email address listed and under it an Inbox, Sent Items, etc. and that's where all my new emails coming in were going. Once I opened my outlook.pst it created another folder called Personal Folders which had my old Inbox and all subfolders, sent items, etc.

I had the calendar that came with Outlook 2016 and after opening the old .pst I had another calendar with all my appointments. When reminders popped up they all had duplicates. When I tried sending a meeting request to someone it said the following: "This meeting is not in the Calendar folder for this account. Responses to this meeting will not be tallied. Do you want to send it anyway?

Same with contacts. I had contacts (this computer), contacts (email address), and contacts (Personal Folders). The latter had my contacts from my old .pst.

So I figured I must have done something wrong??

Thank you,
Kristina

What is the source of your email server? (i.e. is it an Exchange server, or are you working with IMAP or SMTP?)
