Need your help guys... I have Exch5.5 sp4 running on NT4 PDC. Due to lack of disk space have purchased new server (w2k). Installed Exch5.5 sp4 and is member server of domain.
What steps are needed to get all mailboxes and services running on new server on disable exchange functions on old server? Cheers All.....

As long as the servers are on the same site, all you need to do is to highlight the mail boxes you want to move (whilst in the recipents folder) and then go Tools, Move Mailbox, it will then ask you which server you want to move it to, Choose the correct one and your away!

Once all the mailboxes are across, go on to the new server and run the exchange optimizer, this will allow you to move ove the site connectors

After that you just need to check your bridgehead servers on the directory replicator(within exchange administrator) and you should be up and running Sketch[lightsaber]

sketch, Thx but I am newish to Exch. How do I get new server in site. Can't find anything like Add Server!!!!

Not a problem, If you have two servers running exchange in the same building (on the same network) it should automatically pick it up, exchange can't move mailboxes between two locations.

If it doesn't you'll need to check your Network settings, make sure there both running within the same IP range (ie: 150.1.x.x) and running on the same subnet (i.e. 255.255.0.0) Sketch[lightsaber]

Sketch, New server is in same physical network but in new IP range & subnet! Can ping eachother though as routed somewhere. Does this need to change or can I put something in hosts file ????

I would personly take the lazy way out and put them on the same ip range and subnet untill you have moved the mailboxes and connectors across, once there across change the new server back to the IP/ Subnet you want, It works out alot eaiser than messing around with host files and having to recreate connectors

but thats just me Sketch[lightsaber]

When you install the server you get an option wether the server is to be installed in existing enterprise or a new one. You should choose 'existing'. , or similar to that not exactly sure.

Thx both.Already installed exchange as NEW will uninstall, change IPs and reinstall.Fingers crossed I'm running out time rapidly!!!
