Hi all...we have a sharepoint installation that has been going great for about 6 months now. However, we recently realized that in order to expand our coverage to our international offices, we need to move the portal up one domain level, so that the other domains can see the portal. Here is what we have (names have been altered in order to hide true identity LOL):

A domain called WIZARD that is trusted by the domain DOROTHY and the domain TOTO. Right now the sharepoint is installed on DOROTHY. So, only DOROTHY active directory users can get into the portal. TOTO users are denied access.

So, we need to move the sharepoint portal up one level to WIZARD in order for DOROTHY, TOTO, TINMAN, etc to be able to login as well.

Some blogs I have read suggest that this is a simple as just changing the server domain name since WIZARD is trusted buy DOROTHY. However, I need more input before making the change.

We work off of a 2 server environment (1 web/index and 1 database) so what are the implications, if any, on each server, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

as you mentioned yourself moving up your servers to the Top Level Domain will give users from the lower domains access to the portal.
Back up your portals and move the servers to the other domain.

as i can see from what you're stating is that all service accounts etc will still be able to logon and all should keep working after the domain move.

you might want to try first in a demo environment though ;-)
