Hi- We have a server hardware failure that we can't rectify and the backups have failed. We are running NT4 on Compaq Proliant hardware about a year old.

Can we simply move the disks to a same hardware server, and boot it - does anyone know or has anyone tried this approach?

Thanks in advance..

You should be able to - why not just try it (I'd image the boot drive first, just in case of problems).

PS. I've had this work when the hardware was not identical.

Yeah it will work, even if the hardware is just reasonably close.

If it blue screens try VGA mode first.

It is possible.

If you are runnig a RAID-system, than you need to swap the array-card also, because the settings used by the raid-config is stored on that card.

If you have only 1 drive with IDE or SCSI without any raid-configs, well, it must work under VGA-mode.

Let me know.

Ewald
