I have taken over a web site for my church. I am not a web developer. I work with databases and such. But anyway there is a movie clip of our sermon each week but it often takes a long time to load. Anyway to speed this up? Here is the link.

Click the one that says "View This Weeks Sermon"

Thanks in advance.

How big is the video in file size terms?

Around 100,000 to 150,000 k per week. It's a wmv.

Well there you go, even with a DSL connection 100MB is quite large an will take a while. Try compressing it a bit with any video editing program before actually placing it online.

Maybe a different format may offer a smaller file.

How long are the sermons usually? 30 minutes 1 hour?

Maybe you could break it up into chapters.

I convert it from the IFO format to a wmv. I thought this was compressing it. They are usaully 15 to 20 mins. It's just a portion of the sermon.

How do I compress it more?

p.s.: Thank for such a quick response!!!

15-20 minutes worth of video in a 100MB file seems a little excessive.

As an example i have a 21 minute video in wmv format that's only 15Mb that's an 85MB difference. Granted its not the best quality, but it serves its purpose.
Its at 107kbps with a size of 320*240pixels

Whichever software you use to convert it to wmv should have options to alter these parameters. I would suggest maybe something a little higher than my parameters like: 128kbps with a size of 640*480 this should give you a file size of about 30-40mb with acceptable quality. Play around with them until you get a good quality video at a reasonable file size.

Thanks a bunch. I really appreciate this. Hope I'm able to help you one day in my area of world.

Video looked really good. But for its picture size seemed to take a little long to load. Plus it had to rebuffer after playing like 30 secs and still in the intro. First, try to make any intro's as short as possilbe. I have a decent connection speed. But your viewers will get very annoyed with the intro as cool as it is. Also, you're web hosting site and or package may not be fast enough? My last thought is also compression as mentioned above. Compression can be tricky. Try and mess around with it to get the best picture from the size you are outputting. Just because the video picture size is small doesn't mean it is compressed well...Check out my cheezy videos I did for school at and click the projects/videos link. On my slow computer they look good but get jumpy. This would not be because of connection speed/file size but because the compression used makes small file sizes but takes a lot of computer resources to uncompress which seems to be the opposite problem you have. I used flash compression (flv) which requires the browser to have flash player installed. My longest file is the ARJO video which is approx 40MB.

I think the problem may be where you are hosting the website from. Doesn't seem to have a fast enough download speed.
