I have sbc/yahoo and the Speedstream 5360 modem, connected to a Nic. I had the computer upstairs running perfectly with the modem for a few years. I got a second computer and ran the 2 side by side just switching over the cord. ( i would just plug which ever computer into the back of the modem) Worked perfectly whenever I did it with both computers. I recently spliced a phone line in my cellar got a identical modem hooked it all up perfectly and it doesnt work. All four lights (power, dsl, act, enet) all just stay green with no flickering at all. I have even tried to download the firmware everyone speaks of when it comes to these modems even though it worked perfectly upstairs. I have even switched modems so the original perfect one is now downstairs and still the same results. The upstairs computer and modem have been totally un hooked and I have tried everything but keep getting nothing but the 4 lights staying on. Both modems work perfectly upstairs but for some reason downstairs it wont work! does the line need some special activation? Its the same phone number, i get dial tone and can make calls from a phone. I dont understand why it wont work??

You cannot use two DSL modems on a single DSL connection.

What you want to do is return the modem and purchase a broadband router.

hey you should never have a solid ACT light, you need to check the power outlet, test it by unplugging the dsl cable from modem and see if lights stay on, and also check other outlets in home outlet may have wrong voltage. if you unplug dsl line from modem and you still get solid lights then that tells you that that outlet will not work. try that I do this for a living here at SBC.
