moved from win 2000 to win xp pro all jpg's locked??

I upgraded from windows 2000 to windows xp pro about 2 weeks ago. I set-up the new system as dual boot system. Under win 2000 admin account I moved all the jpg files into a newly created XP folder. Now when I log in on the XP side as admin, (by the way windows was smart enough to carry my admin account password over from 2000 to XP). There are now 300 jpg file of which only 15 can be opened!!

In windows explorer if you look at the jpg file properties, "private folders" and "encryption " are not selected. I checked in ms-dos window all files still have .jpg extensions?????????????

No matter where I move these files, the inherent "cannot open" goes with them.

Any ideas would be appreciated,

Are both Hard Drives, or partitions, NTFS?
And can you access them still when booting in win 2k?

Have you tried opening them with a 3rd party tool, like ifranview or PaintShop?

Thanks for a responses so quickly, here are further details:

I can view the jpg's when logged in as win 2000 admin. But no matter where I place them in a new folder created on either the win 2000 side or on the win xp pro side. When I log into xp as admin or my own xp account, if you double click in explorer, that default picture viewer app that xp gives states "no preview avail" all the files still have .JPG extensions. The weird thing is that there are 15 of them that show as thumbnails and the other 285 cannot be accessed?? At one time the folder was in "magic folders" program. But I removed the folder from that application then unisntalled magic folders.
If you try to browse them in paint shop pro 6, it only shows the 15 of the 300!!

I think I have them on CDR somewhere, but I should not have to lose pics by moving to XP pro.

Any additional thoughts?

It's possible even though the password for both OS are the same the permissions are not. Try in the 2K side giving all rights to all users and see what happens.

Thanks that was it! the move from 2000 to xp account password was the same, but the files in that folder were assigned a unique secure ID by XP, I logged on as XP admin and took ownership after exposing the security tab which was buried deep in a new intall of xp pro. Now I see all 300 jpg's
