Our current PDC and exchange server (same server) are getting old. I have a new server that I just purchased. I've read articles on how to move exchange to a new computer.. specifically MS Article 155216. This article says that the instructions assume that the server is not a domain controller. I am also running WINS and DHCP on this server. What steps should I take to move exchange to a new server and this new server has to be a PDC and have the same name? Thanks

If you have a BDC, promote it to be the PDC. Give things a day to settle. Then follow the steps outlined in the FAQ I wrote, which is a modified version of 155216. It should work equally well with a server that is to be a domain controller, you just can't do these things with a PDC. When you get to the point of installing NT on the new hardware, make sure you build it as a BDC. When done, do not promote the Exchange server back to PDC. Exchange should not be on a PDC due to the problems that could be caused by it going down.

My FAQ is here:

Our only option is to have exchange on the PDC. I will read your FAQ.

Thanks
