Good Morning,

I want to cycle through and preview my type on the artboard.

With AI CS2 on my PC I can do this with mouse scroll wheel. On my 17" Powerbook I use no mouse. I would like to acheive this preveiw with just the keyboard on my PB.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use AI's new WYSIWYG type preview via keyboard?

If you use the Character Window, rather than the Menu, you can click once on teh font and use the arrow keys.

I tried to do this. It won't work. Do i need to tweak out the prefs?

If you click and release and then use arrows, you should be ok, bt take a look at your System prefs for trackpad etc.

OK, I feel like I'm going crazy. This iritates me beyond belief! I wanted to be able to cycle through type so badly!

I tried to do everything you said, to no avail. When I highlight the font in the char. window and use the arrow up or down the only thing that happens is the cursor moves. I couldn't find anything to tweak in the prefs.

If this helps, I am currently working on OSX 10.4.1 on a 17 PB G4, AI CS2

HI jmc05,

As I understand it, what you want to do is cycle your fonts and see the changes in your selected text.

Well that is possible. But you have to type a character in the Character palette and then hit the Tab key. The the changes will be applied to the selected text.

But real time cycling is not possible.

What you can do is make szome changes in your preferences.

Go to preferences and Type and auto tracing.

There at the bottom you have the possibility to select 'Font Preview size'.

Make your choice and now when you want to see how the font looks like don't use the character palette but go to the Type menu and you will see a preview of your font.

Hope this helps

Don't highlight the font in the Character window. Just click once on the arrow to the right of the menu to bring up the WYSIWYG font menu. Then use arrow keys.

Thank you all but no, none of these things work.

I want to to preview different typefaces live in my layout like I do in photoshop, like I can on my PC Ai CS 2, not see the sample of the font in the corresponding menu.

You are able to do this in AI CS 2, I guess it's mouse dependant.

Sorry!

I thought you wanted to scroll the WYSIWYG type menu without holding on the trackpad.
