Mouse will not work in Windows under normal mode. However the mouse will work in Windows SAFE MODE and will work in all DOS applications.

When in regular windows mode inside the DEVICE MANAGER I see an error that the VMOUSE.VXD file can not be found. I searched the hard drive and system folder and the file is not their. How can I get a clean copy of the file without reinstalling windows entirely??? especially since everything else is working great on this machine?? Keith Buchanan

Remove the mouse in Device Manager (you should be able to do this using the keyboard!), then reboot. Windows should detect the mouse and request the CD so that it can load the driver from it.

I hope this helps

it is a part of vmm32.vxd a monolithic driver that replaces quite a few drivers, there is a fix available called vxd.fix that installs the individual drivers off of your windows cd. See:
Or visit:
and look at point 8 which will explain exactly what to do. Beware of a vxd file from any source other than your own CD. Reinstalling Windows over the existing installation can
sometimes cure this too.

The above information came from:

After serching for the file on Google.
