I am experiencing a rather strange situation where my mouse pointer turns into a square block approximately 64x64 pixels.
Has anyone else heard of this/experienced this?
Anyone got any ideas of fixes for this?

Thanks

Have you tried changing the mouse icon (Control Panel -> Mouse -> Pointers)?

If this doesn't work, what about reinstalling the mouse software. Microsoft Intellipoint should be easy to get hold of if you don't have any software.
If you've got a specific mouse which comes with software try reinstalling that.

No, doesn't work. I wrote a VB app to toggle the cursor through the hourglass and back in the hope of releasing whichever application is causing the problem but no joy.
This is happenning on a number of machines with multiple configs. The only consistencies are the software base. I have an idea that it may be Hummingbird Exceed but this is not confirmed.

Does it make a difference if you reduce the level of hardware acceleration of the video card? (Under Display properties click on Advanced, Troubleshooting). I had a similar problem with another program that controls your screen - PCAnywhere. I reduced the number or colours and reduced the HW acceleration to None and all worked well. Strangely enough when i (gradually) increased the HW acceleration back to Full the problem did not reappear!
I assume you have the latest version of video drivers and Exceed.

Try re-installling the graphics card driver, as if if it has corrupted it will cause the mouse point to be a black square on screen.

I don't know whether this will work, but if the icons turn into a black square the fix is as follows:

a) Go into Explorer (or My Computer). Ensure that you can see all files including hidden ones.

b) Go into C:\WINNT and look for a file called SHELLICONCACHE.

c) Delete the above file and reboot.

Like I said, dunno if it will work for your mouse problem, probably not but that's my tuppence worth ;) -----------------------------------------------------
