I've got an Acre Aspire, nice little machine. One trouble, the pointer occasionally turns into a four-armed symbol changes the size of my display. I've not come across anything like it before. Can anyone advise?

I've looked through all the Word options to see if I can switch it off. Also the Mouse controls on the Windows Control Pannel, no joy.

I originally thought this was a Word problem, but I got no responses after 4 days. Can anyone here help?

Are you holding down the control key with your tea cup??

By holding down the Ctrl key while rolling your mouse wheel the display will "zoom in" or "zoom out" in Word, Excel, IE and Firefox as well.

In Excel there is a setting to check to "zoom on roll"

Thanks for replying. No, I'm doing nothing except try to move the pointer.

The Pointer you describe sounds like the "Move" symbol, are you moving windows around when this occurs?

Are other applications running besides Word when this happens?

Is it an intermittent problem or can you reproduce it at will?

Have you tried another mouse?

How long has this behavior been going on, is System Restore an option?

It's a laptop. It happens when I am just pointing, I am not intentionally moving anything.

I finally figured it. I was keeping a finger of my left hand hovering over the button while I moved the pointer with my right forefinger. I guess it somehow understood this as a click. When I stopped myself from touching the click button the problem vanished.

I thought it worth putting on record just in case someone else has the same problem.
