Not sure why this is happening, I have a user that docks his laptop. When he locks his computer to go away from his desk, if he lets it sit for around 2 hours or so and comes back the mouse is no longer working and he has to reboot his laptop for it to be functional again. However, whe he is away for less than an hour the problem does not occur. Could there be any reason as to why when the laptop sits idle for an extended period of time it would not be funtional anymore?

You could try checking the power management settings in the BIOS (if there are some) and turn off the ability for it to shut down the IRQ that the mouse resides on.

Also, I have seen (mostly when coming out of directx games) that there is NO mouse when you hit the desktop unless you hit CTRL + ALT + DEL and then hit ESC to cancel the task manager that comes up with that key stroke. Once you've done that you will have mouse again.

Not sure if either of those will help you, but it is something to try and see if it solves the problem.

Cheers!
