mouse driver error, and i cant input anything in XP!!

so i brought my system case round a friends place to play a bit of multiplayer and using his monitor, mouse etc. it all works fine cept for an annoying fault: the mouse pointer is laggy across the screen, so we change the mouse to an optical and the same problem occurs so we get out a windows 2000 mouse driver from disk install it and restart now nothing works in xp input wise, in dos and bios it does but not xp, so i cant do safemode or anyother thing that involves going to xp cause that uses an interface that has been effected by the faulty driver so i have to do it through dos but i dont know the right syntax to get rid of the driver. its in the file c:gmouse
i dont have a boot disk to redo it
anyhelp is much appreaciated

Boot the box. once booted and logged in, hold the Windows key and press the pause/break key. Tab and arrow over to the hardware tab, then tab down to the device manager. Once in the device manager, navigate down to the mouse. Expand that branch using the right arrow, then alt-enter on the mouse to bring up the properties. Tab and arrow to the driver tab, then go down to the "Roll Back Driver" entry.

If this doesn't work, delete the mouse entirely from the device manager, reboot, and reinstall the mouse using the correct drivers for Windows XP.

thanks, but i also cant use the keyboard in xp for some stupid reason... if you know anything about this any help would be appreaciated

Do you have an XP CD?

If you have one then you can use it to repair XP. You will have to replace your windows updates but your files will be safe.

REPAIR WINDOWS

Boot from XP CD
(Windows will now load some temporary files)


Options after booting

*To Set Up Windows XP now press ENTER

*To Repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R

*To Quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3


Press ENTER for first option (don't select Recovery Console)
(Accept Eula agreement)

Follow onscreen instructions to repair windows installation
