Hi

I have a PC which when ever I turn it on the mouse pointer/cursor moves very erratically and quickly all over the screen without me having any control over it. It even right clicks and left clicks on its own. It is a normal "ball" mouse. I assume there is a conflict or callibration problem. I have looked on the Microsoft website and there is an article about "Intelli-mouse" mouse pointer moving erratically on windows XP/2000. I have followed the instructions on this article removing all mouse related keys in the registry and device manager. This initially made the mouse cursor disappear - the instructions said to leave the mouse plugged in (even though there was no cursor) and restart the machine, which I did, however when the computer loaded up the mouse cursor was moving around erratically again. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with updated mouse drivers. Still no success (same thing happens - the mouse cursor is initally removed but when I restart the machine with the mouse left plugged in the cursor reappears and moves around erratically.

There are no viruses and the computer is well protected. I have tried plugging in different mice and performing the above procedures - with no success.

Please can anyone help me solve this problem as I cannot use the computer while this is happening.

Thank you for any help.

Les

The mouse is connected via the normal round plug in the back of the computer..just next to the keyboard plug. I am using windows 2000.

Thank you for any help.

I also forgot to say the machine was working fine a week ago.

Ok I have solved this problem. In case anyone else has this problem here is how I did it - I looked in Device Manager and looked in the Mouse and Pointing Devices - there were two mouse devices there as I had seen before and previously removed - however they were back, one was a Microsoft Serial Ball and Logitech PS/2. I disabled the Microsoft Serial Ball and left the Logitech working. Everything works fine now. Must have been a conflict as I first thought.

Also, you can get the very same issues when the batteries are near dead. Thats what my logitech trackball does when batteries are low.

Good advice + great people = tek-tips

The same thing happened on a computer I fixed today and I had to go about it the exakt same way.

Maybe we will be seeing more get this problem?
